"Aves del Ecuador" launched in Quito on March 22nd

The Spanish language edition of “The Birds of Ecuador” has been published by Fundación Jocotoco. The two volume field guide was launched at a reception held in the splendid Centro Cultural Metropolitano in the World Heritage Old City in Quito. The event was hosted by the Mayor, Paco Moncayo Gallegos.

Attending was Francisco Sornoza, Chief Executive of Jocotoco, Robert Ridgely the author, and Paul Greenfield the artist  who painted the 100 colour plates. All 1600+ species which have been seen in mainland Ecuador (about one sixth of all the world's bird species) are described and illustrated.

The Mayor presented a scroll to Dr. Ridgely in honour of his contribution to Ecuador for his work on this book. Paul Greenfield also received a scroll in tribute.

FJ receives award for eco-tourism

On April 23rd at a ceremony in Machala, Francisco Sornoza was presented with an award to the Jocotoco Foundation. This was for its work (at the Buenaventura Reserve) which has promoted eco-tourism to the Province of El Oro.

The occasion was to celebrate the 123rd anniversary of the formation of the Province, and was attended by about 700 people, including the President of Ecuador, Sr Rafael Correa.
