"Saving Orchids and Birds in Ecuador"

The May issue of "Orchids" - the journal of the American Orchid Society contains a 10 page full colour article about the role of Fundación Jocotoco reserves in protecting the survival of many of the rare and endemic orchid species which are found in the Andes of Ecuador. This has been written by Lou Jost who has been carrying out botanical surveys in the reserves for the last four years. Lou specialises in cloud-forest orchids, and is co-author of the Orchidaceae section of the Plant Red Data Book for Ecuador.

Ecuador has the richest known orchid flora on the planet - currently about 4000 species.
