Visitor Accommodation in Jocotoco Reserves
In 2004, new facilities were completed in the Buenaventura and Canande reserves for small parties of visitors, to add to the existing lodge at Tapichalaca, which opened in 2001.
Tapichalaca
The visitors Lodge is located at an altitude of 2500m in the reserve, with a variety of walking trails giving access to this Andean forest with many rare and beautiful birds and flowers. There are four bedrooms each with bathroom, together with a separate building for staff and research workers. Groups of visitors up to about eight people can be comfortably accommodated.

Buenaventura
A simple but adequate facility is now available in the lower section of the reserve at an altitude of 500m. This has two bedrooms each with a bathroom, and is suitable for groups of up to four visitors. An adjacent building is used by staff and for meals for visitors, and hummingbirds.

Río Canandé
Again, a simple but adequate facility is now available for visitors, which has three/four bedrooms each with a bathroom, with meals available in the adjacent wardens house. The lodge is situated at about 300m altitude within the hot Choco tropical forest. Three species of monkeys have been observed close by, together with many endemic bird species.

Yanacocha
This reserve, which is suitable for day visits, is located about 45 minutes drive from Quito, on the slope of Pichincha volcano, at an altitude of about 3500m. In clear weather it provides spectacular views of Pichincha, and adjacent mountains. There is a level walking trail of about two kilometres, and other trails. In cloudy weather (usually later in the day), the birds, especially Hummingbirds at the feeders are more active. An entrance fee is payable to the warden at the gate.

Fundación Jocotoco welcomes visitors with an interest in conservation, bird watching or tropical ecology in general to the reserves. If you would like to stay at the facilities at Tapichalaca, Buenaventura or Canande, the best way is to contact a local ecotourism company in Ecuador, so that reservations, transport and food requirements can be organised.
